Smile

In 1963, commercial artist Harvey Ball was hired to create a smiley face. The image was used in a corporate campaign to raise employee morale through happy messages on buttons, desk cards and posters. The result was Smiley.

World Smile Day, which is on the first Friday of October each year, traces its roots back to Harvey. The Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation dedicates the day to “good cheer and good works” with the catchphrase for the day of “Do an act of kindness - help one person smile”.

According to Psychology Today, your smile has superpowers! Not only can it make you look younger and thinner, but your smile (even a forced one) uplifts your mood and promotes a sense of well-being. Do you like chocolate? Well, a smile induces more pleasure in the brain than your favorite chocolate! It may even predict fulfillment in marriage and the span of your lifetime. When people see you smile, they think: courteous, likeable, competent. But perhaps most importantly, smiles are contagious. When you smile, you share these superpowers with those around you!

Enjoy your superpowers!
