A Vision of Independence
It is time for the annual celebration of Independence Day, the 4th of July, the holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and our nation’s birth. The people who fought for our country’s freedom did not always see eye to eye. However, they did have a common vision of living in an independent nation and they worked together, despite differences, to realize that vision.
We spent some time recently examining and refining our vision and role in making this vision a reality. LifeBridge Partnership’s vision is that people of ALL abilities will find belonging, realize their potential, and experience well-being. We understand that achieving this will hold different meanings or look a little different for each person. And,we celebrate those differences!
In helping this vision come to life, LifeBridge Partnership is on a mission to build bridges to a barrier-free life of social independence for individuals with disabilities. The word “independence'' conjures various meanings such as freedom, choice, self-determination, and self-reliance. Each of these has a place in the work we do.
We don’t define a disability as a barrier to independence but as an opportunity to walk alongside an individual as they discover their social independence. We partner with our participants in discovering the recreational and social opportunities our community has to offer; and, we support our participants as they learn to navigate those opportunities, develop healthy relationships with people who have common interests, and advocate for themselves.
As you gather with family and friends to enjoy backyard BBQs, community celebrations, and fireworks displays, take a moment to ponder what independence means. Consider joining us on mission to promote and celebrate the independence of individuals with disabilities!
